A trip to Bury Fire Safety Centre
We had such a wonderful time visiting the Greater Manchester Training and Safety Centre in Bury. In class we have been learning all about superheroes and firefighters are real life superheroes who put their lives at risk to help us every day.
We had a day jam packed full of things to do. We learnt that firefighters need to get their uniform on in just 1 1/2 minutes and even tried it ourselves to see if we could do it. We also learnt about all the different people firefighters help as it's not just about fighting fires. It was great to learn about how to keep safe in a fire and we had great fun practising the very important steps of STOP, DROP and ROLL.
We played the role of detectives and visited a crime scene where someone had crashed into a bike. We needed to look at all the clues to work out what we thought might have happened. We discussed the different things we should do when we're a passenger in a car to make sure we are being safe and not distracting the driver.
Our other role was that of a 999 call operator. We learnt about what an important job it is and listened to a real 999 call before becoming call operators and practising with our friends.
What a fantastic day it was! Now we know a lot more about how to keep safe, what to do in a fire and how important a firefighter's role is in the community.
