October Reading Challenge

Our Reading Ambassadors have set an October Reading Challenge.

Children will be given a book scavenger hunt to complete over the October half term. They need to hunt for different items in a book and write down the title of the book they found their item in on their answer sheet. These need to be completed and handed into class teachers by Wednesday 2nd November.

Happy hunting...

Reading Ambassadors Training Meeting

Yesterday our Reading Ambassadors had their first online training session with Tameside Libraries. We used padlet to add our ideas in the session about how we can promote reading more in our school.

I am very proud of their dedication in this role! Well done!

Year 1 Visit from the Fire Brigade

Year 1 had a fantastic visit from Stalybridge firefighters this afternoon as part of their superheroes topic. They got to see the flashing lights and hear the siren, squirt water our of the hoses, sit in the fire engine and even Miss Mainprize got dressed up as a firefighter. I think everyone now wants to be a firefighter when they grow up.

Space Week

As part of Space Week, Year 1 created their own planets using watercolours. They loved doing these and were very pleased with the outcome.

Paper bin design competition

The Eco leaders would like to launch a competition to design a new sign for our blue paper bins in school. They would like the sign to explain why it is important to recycle paper - e.g. Save the world, recycle your paper. The sign should be eye catching and colourful on A4 paper. Please send your entries into school by Friday 4th November and the Eco leaders will be choosing the winners from each class.

New diverse books

We have started to develop our diverse section of books in the KS2 Library and in our KS1 classrooms. We are very excited about the range of books that we have added to our library. These include books, characters and authors from the Black, African and Minority Ethnic community and books which celebrate characters who are neurodiverse.

Have a look in the KS2 Library for our new books with the brown sticker bands.

Black History Month

October is Black History Month. At Broadbent Fold we continue to raise awareness of equality and diversity. Check out our year group blogs to see which significant black individual each class has been studying. We are here to learn from the past to make a difference to our present day and our future for everyone.

World Space Week

We are celebrating World Space Week at Broadbent Fold. Look out for our competitions set by our Science Leader Miss Harvey. How do astronauts do their cleaning?   With a vacuum! What's an astronaut's favourite tea?    Gravitea!Where do astronauts train?   At universe-ity!

Space Poem Competition

World Space Week begins on 4th October and Thursday 6th October is National Poetry Day.

We are going to combine them together for our new competition for Y1-6.

I would like you to create a space themed poem. This could be about the planets, our solar system or maybe you want to make a poem about aliens.

Present your poem colourfully and you may win a prize in your class. Hand your completed poem to your teacher by Friday 14th October and the winners will be announced in assembly in the final week of the half term.

Good luck.

Miss Harvey
