Science Fair 2023

Year 6 have had a fabulous day hosting the Science Fair this year. We have worked with KS1 and KS2 to investigate, research and consolidate our scientific learning across the school. We have explored magnets, electricity, scents, fingerprints, chemical reactions, famous inventors, space and beyond, rocks and fossils, light and shadow and human organs.

Thank you Year 6 you were fantastic leaders today and I am very proud of you all.

Science Poster winners 2023

Well done to everyone who entered the British Science Week poster competition about connections.

I met with Mrs Blomeley and the Pupil Leaders this week to choose our school winners which was a very difficult decision.

Our KS1 winner is Nora!

Our KS2 winners are Matilda in Y5 and Sam G, Harriet, Thomas O and Boyd in Y6.

Well done to you all :)

Y6 Star of the week 24-3-23

Well done to our Stars this week Jack and Henry.

Jack is really working hard on improving his writing and I am really impressed with his informal letter from a migrant this week.

Henry has contributed so well to our P4C sessions and I love how confidently he puts across his viewpoints. Keep this up.

Our Good to be Green winners are Daniel and Lexi for being outstanding role models!

Preparations for the Science Fair

This week year 6 have enjoyed trialling some activities which we may use in our Science Fair which is on Monday 27th March- it is lovely to listen to them consolidate their previous learning by setting up activities linked to scientific knowledge they have built up at school.

We can't wait until Monday to do the real thing!

Philosophy For Children in Y6

Year 6 are really enjoying their P4C sessions on extremism. This week we have looked at our own identity and what it is to be a human. I have been impressed with their sensible approach to these sessions and how they discuss and listen to each other's viewpoints.

Basketball competition

Some Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a basketball competition tonight and they were amazing and have qualified for the finals next week! They showed great teamwork, encouraging and supporting one another, and were determined throughout. They beat Micklehurst B team 6-0, Greswell A team 4-0, Manchester Road A team 6-0 and Arlies B team 2-0.

Amazing job everyone - bring on the finals next week!

Dodgeball in Y6

Year 6 have been enjoying their dodgeball sessions in PE this half term. Yesterday we played some 'Character Dodgeball'. Different children adopted different characters to use to their advantage in the game such as Dr Dodgeball who can resuscitate members who are out and the Golden baller who knocks out the whole team if they hit one person.

Great skills year 6!

Gardening Eco Club Week 1

The Eco Leaders have done a fantastic job this afternoon trimming the overgrown plants, weeding and litter picking. We also made friends with some very cute baby snails!  Well done everyone!

Art fit for a King!

All of the children in Key Stage 2 have worked so hard to transform our Art Gallery into a celebration of the forthcoming Coronation of King Charles III.  They have used different medium to create their images; Year 3 used digital media to produce their versions of crowning King Charles, Year 4 used their portrait skills, Year 5 created new Royal crests by researching the King's hobbies and Year 6 chose stained glass windows as a backdrop for their amazing portraits. Well done everyone!

Visit from Ash Randall

Everyone at Broadbent Fold loved their visit from freestyle footballer Ash Randall today. He holds 25 records in the Guinness book of Records and spoke to everyone about the importance of not giving up as he has been practising for 17 years. Ash Randall taught some of our pupils and even Miss Lewis and Miss Mainprize some new tricks. Thank you for your visit Ash!
