An excellent resource to play at home as part of home learning so that children are aware of how to stay safe while online.
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, the class enjoyed reading the story of the Great Race, where the Jade Emperor invited all the animals in the world to take part. The twelve zodiac signs were awarded to the animals in the order they finished. After a delicious Chinese style lunch, Year 5 coloured Year of the Tiger posters and opened Fortune Cookies to find their predictions of luck for the coming year! We are looking forward to seeing if the predictions come true! Mrs Blomeley
Year 5 have enjoyed our PE sessions lately, learning some of the skills involved in Orienteering! Team building, encouragement and collaborating with their peers to locate points on a map, are just a few of the skills involved in this fun activity! Despite the muddy field Year 5 were amazing! Well done! Mrs Blomeley
Well done to our Year 5 award winners during January! Brilliant work across all subjects and fantastic behaviour from all those who have achieved Headteacher's certificates, Good to be Green awards and Bronze awards. You are all amazing - thank you! Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 and 6 pupils represented Broadbent Fold at the dodgeball competition this week. The Year 5 and 6 teams played against Arlies, Greenside, Holden Clough, Pinfold and Manchester Road primary schools. A big well done to everyone who took part! Pupils got much more confident as the tournament went on and got a lot more stuck in working really well as a team and encouraging each other.
A special mention to Xander who won the schools games respect award for showing great respect to his team mates, the opposiing team and the referees in all of the matches.
Year 5 enjoyed their Crumble Coding workshop today! Their aim was to make a piece of wearable tech to link to their rainforest topic. They used coding to create algorithms to light different colours, for varying durations. After all their hard work, they paraded their creations down a "catwalk", whilst explaining the purpose of their hats or belts. The children had some fantastic ideas, ranging from warning that a dangerous animal is close, to sending out distress signals, as well as lighting up the forest floor to seek out rainforest animals. Dom and Sue, the instructors, were amazed
Our new topic in Year 5 will stretch our geographical skills, as we learn about the importance of rainforests to our planet. This will lead us into the ongoing debate about Climate Change, where we will learn more about Greta Thunberg and her efforts to save our planet.
