Wombat Stew!

Year 2 have been reading the Australian story book called Wombat Stew so we decided to go and make our own wombat stew. Firstly we collected lots of discgusting ingredients from the school grounds like mud, twigs, stones, leaves and grass. Then the children acted out the story and took on the roles the Australian animals and chanted the rhyme. It was lots of fun! We have now written out instructions for how to make wombat stew.
Australia Topic
Year 2 have been enjoying their Australia topic! We have packed our suitcases, plotted a route and made passports. We are all ready to go and explore now. We have been learning about all the different animals that live in Australia and have created an Australia display.
Pirate Day!

Year 2 have had a fantastic pirate day today! They really enjoyed sharing their learning in the class assembly so a big thank you to everyone who came to watch. After the assembly we went on a treasure hunt outside and found lots of golden doubloons. We also decorated some pirate biscuits and danced to pirate music. A very busy but enjoyable pirate day!
Pirate reading!
Year 2 have loved reading all of the pirate topic books in their reading corner. Lots of children brought in books from home or made pirate books to share with the other children. It is fantastic to see so many keen readers!
Pirates Topic!
Year 2 are loving their new pirates topic! We have received letters and a book from actual pirates but we're not scared as we know they are friendly pirates. We have also painted our own pirates and we have read lots of pirate stories. We are now writing our own pirate stories that we hope to read to another class. We are all very excited about our class assembly on Friday 12th February so we can share everything we have learnt.

Nora the cabin girl has sent us a book all about her that is called 'Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates!' We have loved reading it so much that we are mapping the story out in pictures and then we will write our own stories. We worked really well in teams to create our story maps then we told the story to the class using the pictures.
Lost Keys!

We received a poster for some missing keys and so we went exploring the school grounds to see if we could find them. The keys were described as large, old and rusty. After searching everywhere we eventually found some very large, rusty, old keys on the Key Stage 2 playground. We think the keys might belong to pirates so we have written them a letter to find out!
Maths Week
Year 1 and Year 2 have had a very exciting morning with the founder of "Number Fun", Dave Godfrey. Our whole school maths week started with a Key stage 1 workshop, where the childen sang songs, used large numicon pieces and tested out their reasoning skills. A super morning and well done everybody.
Fire service visit!

The fire service visited Year 2 this morning and talked to us about what firefighting is like today. We compared it to firefighting in 1666 (the time of The Great Fire of London). Elissa got to try on the special firefighting clothes which fitted perfectly! We then all went outside to look at the fire engine equipment and we even got to blast the fire hose!
