Andy Goldsworthy Art

This week we have been investigating the work of Andy Goldsworthy who is an amazing sculpture artist that uses natural materials to create his art work.  We also collected natural materials at home and around school and then in pairs we created our own fantastic pieces of art.  Ms Thornton Jones was very impressed with our work!

Animal Models

In art we have been investigating different types of sculpture.  Today we made our own animal sculptures with air drying clay.  We made animals that you would find in our local environment.  They look amazing!

The Gruffalo

We have been exploring the characters in the story of the Gruffalo by doing hot seating.  The children took on the roles of the characters and asked eachother questions.  We then wrote character descriptions and even wrote our own stories based on the story of the Gruffalo.

Year 4 spoke to a lady from South Africa using Skype.

A huge thanks to Natalie's family for arranging a family friend, from South Africa, to skype Year 4.

We listened to Jennifer, a lady from a nature reserve in South Africa, who told us all about habitiats. We then asked her questions such as:

Do you feed the animals?

How many animals are there?

Are you scared of the animals?

A wonderful experience was had by all.

World War II

Next half term our topic is World War II. During our English lessons we will be writing a diary about life as an evacuee, creating persuasive posters and making ration booklets. In topic we will be making gas masks, gas mask boxes, identity cards, learning out life as an evacuee, rationing, how and why the war began and the blitz. We have also got our exciting trip to Stockport Air Raid shelters to look forward too!

Year 5 can feel the force!

Year 5's new Science topic is FORCES and we have been testing a nember of theories.  For example: "Does the force of a push make a toy car go further?"  Yes, we predicted, and our results confirmed this.  "Would a small, light ball fall slower than a large, heavy ball?" Using different size balls and timers we put this to the test and compared our predictions with the results. You'd be surprised!  We also found out that Force is measured in newtons and spent some time measuring newtons of different items around the classroom using different scales of Newton meters.

Our Fantastic Fairground Day in Year 1

Today has been a brilliant day in Year 1. We have had our very own fairground, full of fun, games and lots of yummy food. The children have played Hook a duck, Hoopla, Tin Can Alley and the Coconut Shy. They have been on balancing beams and have been performing using stilts and pom poms.

They have tried pop corn and candy floss and even made their own chocolate apples.

It has been an amazing day and the children have had a fantastic time!
