Welcome to Year 1
This half term we are learning about Witches and Wizards. We will be reading lots of lovely stories such as Winnie the Witch, Room on the Broom and The Princess and the Wizard to help enhance our topic and make it lots of fun.
The children will be ordering the stories, writing character descriptions, using speech bubbles and lots more.
We will also be making our own potions , lets hope nobody turns into a frog!!!!

Today has been a fantastic day in Year 1. We have had Animals Intuition (Andrew) come into our class with lots of different rainforest animals. The children could touch and hold the animals and we have leanrt lots of interesting information about snakes, tree frogs, lizards and many more. We have also learnt about the different layers of the rainforest and what animals can be found in the different layers. The children asked lots of super questions and I am very proud of how sensible they were and how engaged they were thoughout the morning. Brilliant job Year 1.
This week is Sports Week. The focus for the week is the Olympics. In Year 1 we will be focusing on the country of Brazil. We have made flags and head dressess all ready for our opening ceremony. "Come on Brazil"

This half term we will be learning all about The Rainforest. The children will learn about different rainforests around the world, animals and plants found in the rainforest and we will be reading lots of stories about the rainforest. This half term will be lots of fun and we might even see some "real" rainforest animals!!!!!!

Today has been a brilliant day in Year 1. We have had our very own fairground, full of fun, games and lots of yummy food. The children have played Hook a duck, Hoopla, Tin Can Alley and the Coconut Shy. They have been on balancing beams and have been performing using stilts and pom poms.
They have tried pop corn and candy floss and even made their own chocolate apples.
It has been an amazing day and the children have had a fantastic time!

During our Design and Technology session this week, we have made 3D circus settings and characters. The children had to colour, cut and fold their paper to create their amazing circus settings. Well done Year 1!

This week we have been making fairground posters. The children had to include features such as price, time and venue. We have displayed these in our classroom. Come and have a look!
This half term our topic is The Fairground. During our English sessions the children will be making information booklets, posters, tickets and learning about nouns, adjectives and verbs. In maths we will be focusing on time, position and direction. We will also be making our own moveable fairground rides. We are really looking forward to this half term and having lots of fun while we learn.

During science week we visited a planetarium. It was amazing seeing the planets and the stars in our solar system. The children asked lots of questions about the solar system and we wrote a recount about our experience.
