School Blog

Welcome to the Wonderful Wizarding World of Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 Blog. This half term our topic is Witches and Wizards. We will be reading lots of exciting stories about witches and wizards, concentrating on improving our writing by including adjectives and writing labels of our magical potions. It is going to be a very busy half term.

Welcome!

Welcome back everyone! We are very proud of all our children, they are settling in really well. We have been busy learning new routines and exploring all the different areas to learn in throughout the classroom.

Twinkle, Twinkle

Year 2 have written amazing poems about the missing star! They used Twinkle, Twinkle for inspiration and then thought of some lovely adjectives to describe the star. We have created a Space display in our classroom with all of the fantastic poems and super space paintings.

Welcome to Year 2 - The Star Hunt!

Year 2 have been enjoying their new Space topic. We heard a report that a star had fallen in Dukinfield so we went to investigate. The children found a possible landing site on the school field and have been busy writing newspaper reports!

What an amazing Year!

I cannot believe another year has gone by! We have had an amazing year and are so proud of each and every one of our children. They have all worked so hard and made fantastic progress! Here are some snap shots of our 'best bits' from throughout the year.

River Deep and Mountain High! Year 5's Assembly and Open Morning for parents

Year 5 performed brilliantly at their "River Deep and Mountain High" assembly on Friday 17th July!  Based on this half term's theme they were able to share their knowledge and singing/dancing talents with their parents and the rest of school.  Following the assembly lots of parents visited the classroom to celebrate some of the fantastic work their children have produced this term.  Maths challenges and river word definitions games proved a hit with parents and the children really enjoyed this opportunity of sharing the classroom with their parents.

Year 5 face the Dragons!

Their fabulous design of a new fruity smoothy called "Zogo 5" won a group of Year 5 children the opportunity to pitch their product at the Dragons' Den event at Ravensfield School this month. The children faced six "Dragons", including our very own Governor, Mrs Fielding, with some gruelling questions about their research and marketing ideas for their enterprise.  They demonstrated real teamwork together with excellent presentational skills and should be immensely proud of their hard work.

BBF computing ambassadors at KidsMeet!

Children from Year 5 have been in demand this half term!  Three of our computing experts from Year 5 were invited to attend an event called KidsMeet with Mr Chaudry at Astley College.  This is a new initiative to enable children to share their learning across schools.  Our representatives showcased their recently created promotional videos and games to children from other schools in the area.  Teachers and children were extremely impressed by their excellent movie making and programming skills! Well done!

Year 5's River Studies trip to Park Bridge!

It was such a perfect summer's day for Year 5's visit to Park Bridge!  The weather was beautiful and the class were able to see for themselves some of the parts of a river they had been learning about in class.  Even our tour guide Lesley was impressed with Year 5's knowledge!  We saw an example of a meander, a weir and a culvert (a structure that allows water to flow under a road,)  We also found lots of plants around the river and evidence of different types of seed dispersal.
