Advent Challenge- a time to think of others!

The Season of Advent is a time for thinking of others and challenging yourself to be the best possible!

That’s something that people of all faiths can get involved with so here is an  Advent Challenge with a difference.

On the attached for every day there is a different challenge to complete.

Well done Year 6!

This week our Star of the week went to Jessica. She is a delight to have in the class. She is always hardworking, enthusiastic and an excellent role model to others.

The whole class also won an award for their enthusiasm and knowledge during our science workshop this week- well done!

Well done to our Sports Ambassadors- Cameron, Harley, Brooke, Niamh, Tilly and Molly- some of them attended some training yesterday and they are now ready to go!

Well done to all of our Bronze Award winners too who have received at least 50 star points so far!

Quicksticks Final

The Year 6 Quicksticks team took part in the Tameside final on Wednesday night. They came 4th in their group and showed great resillience and teamwork. A special well done to Roban who got a school games badge for showing great passion during the competition and for being respectful.

Evolution workshop

Year 6 had an amazing time during our evolution and inheritance workshop this week. I am so proud of how much knowledge you all remembered from our science topic, yet we still learnt so many new facts. We started the morning looking at the theory of evolution by natural selection and recreated the famous image from 'The Origin of Species'. We then went head-to-head in a competition to see who would survive picking up ping-pong balls with a spoon- and even using chopsticks!! We then explored how the human body is amazing using a circuit of PE activities.

Broadbent Fold vs Buckton Vale

The girls football team played a cup match against Buckton Vale Primary School on Friday. They played fantastic together and won the match 2-0. Darcy was the player of the match for her brilliant goalkeeping skills. Well done girls!

Cross Country Champions

Broadbent Fold were amazing at Cross Country this weekend, running for a third Saturday- representing the school with pride. Well done to everyone involved. I was very proud of you all. Just fabulous!

Y6 Star of the week 19-11-21

Congratulations to this weeks Stars of the Week- Bobby, Ava, Matilda and Scarlett

Bobby has had a fantastic week- he has worked hard in science and English producing a great biography about Mary Anning. He has also researched megladons and why they became extinct.

Our super librarians- Ava, Matilda and Scarlett- have shown great dedication and enthusiasm keeping the library organised and tidy. They even took it upon themselves to talk to KS2 about damaged books they had found and to encourage other classes to look after our books. You are doing a great job ladies!!

Survival of the fittest!

Year 6 planned a fair and comparative test on which beaks would be the most effective at scooping up foods. We had a lot of fun this week carrying out the investigation to see which birds are suitable to collect food and thrive and which would unfortunately eventually die off! I'm sure nobody tried to cheat their way into survival!!

Have a look at our photographs.

Can you have another go at this at home with materials around the house- send in your photographs.

Anti bullying

This week, year 6 supported anti-bullying week by wearing our odd socks on Monday.

We have discussed what bullying is and this years theme 'one kind word'

The children have produced these great posters to prevent bullying- we have displayed these all around school.

Year 6 please see the attached poster- 10 ways to show kindness online.

Quicksticks Competition

On Monday, Broadbent Fold took part in the quicksticks competition where we had a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team taking part.

The Year 5 team came 4th in the tournament beating Audenshaw Primary School 3-0, drawing with Corrie Primary School (B team) 0-0 and Yew Tree Primary School 0-0 and losing to Corrie Primary School (A team) 0-2.
