Year 6 have been eggsperimenting with puns and had a lot of fun creating The Daily Eggspress.
Year 6 have been working eggceptionally hard with their maths at the moment. They have become eggsperts in the 4 rules of numbers and are having a cracking time linking the class theme to their eggcellent skills. Fantastic work Year 6.
We are learning about the Great Fire of London which started on Pudding Lane in a bakery. Many people believe the fire was caused by burning cakes! We used a traditional recipe to make currant cakes similar to those in 1666 (we did cheat a little and used self raising flour!). In maths we have been learning about measurement so the children were able to weigh their own ingredients following a recipe and using scales. The cakes were delicious!
A picnic on the moon, whatever next!!
Nursery's role play area has turned into the moon, children are pretending to have picnics on the moon like the bear in the story of Whatever Next by Jill Murphy.
Year 5 travelled back in time to the Victorian age when they visited Quarry Bank Mill in Styal on 20th October. Dressed in clothes of the Victorian period, the children arrived at Apprentice House and stepped right into a school lesson! Handwriting on chalkboards, calling the very strict Mistress "Maam" and learning about some scary medical procedures of the time (such as bloodsucking leeches!) made Year 5 realise just how lucky they are to live in 2017!
Welcome back! I hope you all had a resting half term break celebrating Halloween and Bonfire night. This half term, we are exploring a fantastic classical piece of music through BBC’s Ten Pieces project by the famous composer Modest Mussorgsky, ‘A Night on Bare Mountain.’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX1Vf5lIRXE. This legendary piece was created for the traditional film ‘Fantasia.’ From this, we will be writing spooky stories using the music to provoke different emotions into our writing.
Our Nursery class welcomed their parents who took part in our Halloween Maths themed workshop. Everyone enjoyed the various number and shape activites all with a Halloween theme.
Can you count how many witches' fingers? How many pumpkin seeds can you put on the pumpkins? Which shapes did you use to create the pumpkin face?
Parents gave very postitive feedback and said it they had been given a true insight into how children learn Maths in Nursery at Broadbent Fold.
Thank you to everyone who attended our maths workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully you did too!
We loved our visit from Leon Baptiste. We loved watching him race and really enjoyed all the exercise we did!
